Contrary to popular belief, parishes are not financially supported by the greater Church of England. Each parish is responsible for raising funds to pay their share of the Deanery and Diocese costs of housing, employing and supporting all our clergy, which for our parish with a “house for duty” priest in 2020 amounts to £28,000. In addition, each parish is responsible for the running costs and upkeep of our church buildings, including insurance. In this parish we have three ancient church buildings, which require considerable maintenance. We are totally dependent on the generosity of our parishioners, visitors to our churches and various fund-raising activities such as our two annual fetes at East Dean and Singleton; the occasional flower festival, concert or other local fund-raising events.
If you would like to give a donation – perhaps in memory of a loved one, or as a thank you, or to support the maintenance costs of our historic buildings – we would be most grateful. You can donate online here:
If you would like to set up a regular giving scheme, please contact our Treasurer Wendy Heather who will be happy to do this for you.
